Rite of Spring

Director's Note

"With this ballet I attempted to interpret a western classical ballet score in a Sri Lankan setting with an overall Asian visual representation. The chirography with obvious Kandyan movements and it’s legitimate extensions are empowered by the inherent behavioral patterns of the Asian dancers, which also bring the ballet to a present day context. However, as the music and theme are mere excuses for an interesting choreographic experience, I have attempted to sustain a compelling ‘dance’ quality throughout the whole ballet. ”
